Time-saving Cheats for Your Hair
Celebrity stylist Luke O’Connor on how to look great in a flash
Who doesn't want to save time, especially when it comes to styling hair? For Luke O’ Connor — celebrity stylist, Suave hair expert and co-owner of LuKaRo salon in Beverly Hills — great shortcuts don’t involve scissors. Here are some of his favorites.
Sleep on Your Style
“One of the things I tell my clients is to wash their hair the night before,” O’Connor says. “When you’re rushed in the morning and you have a big day, it’s a huge help.”
Then dry hair at a low setting. “Overdrying will make hair straighten out too much,” he says. For long hair, twist it into a bun on the top of the head. “When you take it down in the morning you have a great base with lots of volume to work with,” O’Connor says. For shorter hair, refresh and add volume in the morning with a little Suave® Professionals® Volumizing Root Lifter Spray.
Try Turban Chic
Another one of O’Connor’s favorite time-savers is using a microfiber turban. Perfect for all hair types, it can be slipped on immediately after shampooing. “Just wrap wet hair in the turban, then have breakfast or put on your makeup,” he says. The microfiber fabric will rapidly absorb excess moisture from the hair. “When you take it off, you’ll have cut drying time in half.”
Go for the Cold
Blow-dryers have a cool setting for a reason, so try it out. “A cold button is great to cool and set a curl when you are blow-drying with a brush,” O’Connor says, “but it’s also a great way to add volume, especially when it’s hot and scalps sweat and hair becomes limp.” For a quick refresher, turn your head upside down and use a shot of cool air aimed at your roots. “You’ll blast volume right back into your hair.”
